Chapter 13 Summary

Nick spent most of his time exercising his free hand,washing his mother's car and helping his mom scrub the oven.Luckily,Nick's mom did not tell him and his friend Marta about the movie they watched (which they did not actually watched).Nick woke up early the next morning and called the army hospital in Washington,D.C.Soon a nurse from the army hospital anwser the phone and said that his dad was gone and she said she could not say any more information.In Biology class,Dr.Wendell Waxmo then told Nick to stand up and sing a song called "White Christmas",But Nick told the teacher that he did not want sing the song so the substitute asked why,So Marta help Nick when he ran out of words to say and she said that wasn't in the mood to sing and tell the class why Marta's friend didn't want to sing.After hearing about Nick's dad,the some of the class's expression was sympathy and sorrow,even Smoke.When Nick was called in the headmaster's office,Dr.Dressler gave Nick a note that was from Ms Starch and ask Nick a few questions.When the bell rang after the discussion with the headmaster,When Nick was in the parking lot,he heard his mother calling him and Nick could not tell if his mom was crying or not in the distance,so Nick decided to go up to her and see what was the problem.
